Federal Education Funding Remains Uncertain

 

On March 9, 2011 the House Republicans’ FY 2011 budget proposal that included a $5 billion cut in education funding failed to pass in the Senate. A proposal by Senate Democrats also failed to pass, leaving the budget and education funding in a state of uncertainty. The stop-gap budget bill signed by the President on March 2nd authorized government spending through March 18th, avoiding a shut-down of the federal government. [More]

Federal Education Budget Proposals for Two Fiscal Years Are in Debate

 

Although the federal budget for the 2011 federal fiscal year, which began on October 1, 2010, has not yet been approved by Congress and remains under heated debate, on February 14, 2011 President Barack Obama released his administration’s budget proposal for federal fiscal year (FY) 2012. The proposal includes a request for Congress to allocate $77.4 billion for education funding, which is about a 4% increase over the FY 2010 education budget.
