Gates Foundation Awards Grants for Common Standards Work


On February 18, 2010 the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced the award of 15 grants totaling $19.5 million to help schools work on developing and piloting the use on common academic standards.  The projects funded by the grants will use standards consistent with the common standards that being prepared under the direction of the Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Governors Association.  The grants are aimed at boosting students' college readiness by providing teachers with better tools for instruction and monitoring student success.
