On December 2, 2010 Education Week reported online that the state winners of the Race to the Top competition are continuing to move forward with their plans for education reform even though some individual schools and school districts in some states have backed out of the process. Schools and districts that back out forfeit their respective shares in the Race to the Top funds. According to Education Week, some of the local education agencies that have backed out cited concerns about the time and work involved and/or the inability to reach consensus with all of the stakeholders necessary to move forward.
