The Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO) announced on August 23, 2012 that California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Iowa, Maryland, Nevada, New York, and Vermont have won an additional $765 million in health insurance exchange establishment grants. California, Hawaii, Iowa, and New York received substantial increments in “level one” grants. Connecticut, Maryland, Nevada, and Vermont won their first “level two” grants, multi-year awards to States demonstrating excellent progress in level one. [More]

On December 27, 2010, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced the provision of bonuses to states which had increased the number of children they enrolled in Medicaid. The states are Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Washington, and Wisconsin. [More]

Alaska, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas launched their Medicaid Electronic Health Records Incentives Programs on January 3. The HITECH provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) authorized an estimated $20 billion in Medicare/Medicaid payment incentives to promote the adoption and meaningful use of certified, interoperable health information technology to help improve coordination, efficiency, and quality of care. Even with the potential for receiving millions of dollars in new federal aid for the 2010-2011 school year, many states and local education agencies (LEA) across the country fear that more staff lay-offs and other school budget cuts will be necessary when the money runs out. Of the $26 billion state aid bill signed by the President on August 10, 2010, $10 billion was allocated under Public Law No. 111-226 to the new Federal Education Jobs Fund (Ed Jobs) program for the specific purpose of saving or creating education jobs for the 2010-2011 school year.
