On July 15, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education met to take the first step in considering funding for child care and Head Start for the 2011 fiscal year – programs for which the Administration requested crucial increases in the Budget Proposal earlier this year. The bill includes a $700 million increase for the Child Care and Development Block Grant program (CCDBG) and an $866 million increase for Head Start. [More]

The House passed the unemployment benefit extension within hours of receiving legislation passed in the Senate after weeks of debate over The American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010. The Senate last month passed amendments to segregate the unemployment benefits from the rest of the original legislation. On July 21, the Senate passed the legislation with a vote of 59 – 40. Alameda County, CA Human Services signed a re-award contract with PCG Human Services’ Social Security Advocacy Management team to provide filing and processing of Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Administration (SSA) Title II applications for all potentially eligible children in out of home placements.
