Manchester School District Awards CCSS Literacy Project to PCG Education

 

The Manchester School District, New Hampshire’s largest school district, recently awarded a new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) literacy project to PCG Education. The goal of the project is to align the district’s K-8 English language arts and mathematics curriculum to the CCSS. This summer, PCG Education will provide teachers from 14 elementary schools and four middle schools with professional development focused on the instructional shifts of the Common Core Standards, the development of curriculum guidance documents, and the action planning for implementation. CA DSH Awards Senior Project Management Services Contract to PCG Technology Consulting

Tavenner Confirmed to Run CMS

 

On Wednesday, May 15, 2013, the Senate approved President Obama’s nominee to run the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Acting Chief Marilyn B. Tavenner. The 91-to-7 vote for confirmation showed broad support for Ms. Tavenner, a former state health official in Virginia. She is the first confirmed chief of CMS in six and a half years. Ms. Tavenner, a professional nurse, worked for more than two decades at the Hospital Corporation of America. Ms. Tavenner has been Acting Chief since December 2011. Current Rundown of State Medicaid Expansion Decisions

 

A recent AP report discussed the current status of state decisions concerning the issue of Medicaid expansion. It was noted that 20 states, mostly democratic-leaning, and the District of Columbia have accepted expansion. Some 13 GOP-oriented states have declined, citing the cost of Medicaid and a lack of trust about federal funding. It is reported that Florida and Missouri appear unlikely to reach a consensus prior to the end of their current legislative sessions. [More]
