PCG Education is a statewide "strategic thinking" partner for Massachusetts District Literacy Planning. Julie Meltzer (PCG-CRM) presented the keynote presentation at two December conferences sponsored by Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The two-hour interactive keynote, entitled Developing and Implementing an Effective Literacy Action Plan, was the hit of each day and placed PCG Education in front of more than 700 Massachusetts educators from 135 districts.
Julie discussed the components of the Taking Action Literacy Leadership Model referenced in her forthcoming book, Taking the Lead on Adolescent Literacy: Action Steps for School and District Leaders (Corwin, 2010). Dennis Jackson, PCG-CRM's Managing Director, led one of the breakout sessions with colleagues from the Lowell Public Schools, a Literacy & Learning Audit client, titled: Putting the Action into Literacy Action Planning. Every attendee walked away with the Guidelines for Developing an Effective Literacy Action Plan, a 98-page workbook authored by Julie and Dennis, and a CD of templates to use within their schools and districts.
PCG-CRM literacy consultants will be working with Lowell and Framingham this year on grant projects funded by the Massachusetts Office of Literacy and will continue to work directly with the Office of Literacy to support action planning processes in districts across the state.
