U.S. Supreme Court turns down appeal of challenge to ACA

On Tuesday, January 19, 2016, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to take up an appeal of a Washington, D.C., U.S. Court of Appeals decision denying another challenge to the Affordable Care Act (ACA).  This latest challenge to the ACA, Sissel v. DHHS, alleged that the Act violated the “Origination Clause” of the U.S. Constitution, requiring bills that raise revenue be introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.  The lower Appeals Court had concluded that the ACA was not a revenue bill but a bill expanding health care and that it was not clear that the bill arose in the U.S. Senate.
