On November 7, the U.S. House voted 220-215 to approve H.R. 3962, the "Affordable Health Care for America Act".  A motion was filed in the Senate on November 10 to introduce parallel legislation in that chamber on November 16, but the Senate is not expected to take further action on that bill. The Senate Finance Committee voted 14-9 on October 13 to recommend full Senate consideration of S. 1796, the "America's Healthy Future Act of 2009", but no formal action on S. 1796 has been taken since the committee's final report on that bill was released on October 19.  If the Senate passes S. 1796 as it stands, a House/Senate joint conference committee would attempt to reconcile many differences between the two chambers, and could adopt individual provisions passed as part of either bill. Individual provisions in H.R. 3962 worth tracking through reconciliation include those related to consumer-directed community living assistance services and supports, medical home pilot programs, accountable care organizations, grants to school-based clinics for expenditures not covered by Medicaid, continuous Medicaid eligibility for juveniles in detention, coverage of rehabilitative and habilitative services as part of a standard health insurance benefits package, and demonstration waivers related to institutions for mental diseases.
