The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on October 26 the availability of up to $335 million in FY 2011 supplemental grant funding to support expansion of primary and preventive care through community health centers, migrant health centers, public housing sites, and health services for homeless persons. The grants will be administered through HHS’s Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) under requirements in section 330 of the Public Health Service Act. The $335 million is part of $11 billion in supplemental grant funds for such facilities authorized under the federal health care reform law over a five year period to improve access to primary and preventive care in underserved communities. Behavioral health, pharmacy, vision, dental, and other services may also be covered under the grants. Each grant application must show exactly how the grantee will use the requested funds to expand access. Applications are due January 6, 2011.
