The Office of Family Assistance released guidance on the TANF Contingency Fund for FY 2011 and 2012 in anticipation that states will need additional contingency funds due to the unfavorable economic conditions that exist. The Continuing Appropriations Act of 2011 provided federal funding for the Contingency Fund for FY 2011 for up to $506 million and for FY 2012 for up to $612 million. Previous guidance issued on the Contingency Fund is applicable with current year applications for access to the limited federal funds. Applications can be submitted when a state becomes eligible, with provisional payments being authorized by OFA. Reconciliation will be required at the end of the year.
