On November 3, Rep. Geoff Davis (R-KY), Chairman of the Human Resources Subcommittee introduced legislation that will require states to establish consistent content and format of data used by human services agencies that administer programs under the Social Security Act. The bill is intended to achieve three goals: prevent and identify fraud and abuse; increase the efficiency of administrative resources to serve eligible recipients; and produce program savings for U. S. taxpayers. It is described as continuing the efforts begun in the recent legislation signed by the President on September 30, 2011 which has requirements for child welfare agencies to implement standard data elements and reporting. The Child and Family Services Improvement and Innovation Act, which requires states to establish common data standards to improve information sharing, will improve the efficiencies of the programs while allowing states to better coordinate services for children and families.
