CMS Loans to CO-OPs Exceed $1.8 Billion

 

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced on October 12, 2012 that it has committed $1,820,573,884 in loans to 23 Consumer Operated and Oriented Plans (CO-OPs) under section 1322 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Section 1322 authorizes up to $3.8 billion in federal loans to foster the creation of consumer-governed private non-profit health insurance issuers that will offer qualified health plan coverage through health insurance Exchanges by January 2014. HHS Finalizes Rules on Health Insurance Exchanges

 

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued on March 12 a draft copy of final rules on state health insurance exchanges under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The final rules are scheduled to be published officially in the Federal Register on March 27, to be effective 60 days later. HHS may consider additional comments for up to 45 days after publication on nine “interim final” provisions within the rules. [More]

CCIIO Awards $220 Million for Health Insurance Exchanges

 

The Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO) announced on November 29 that it is awarding $220 million in health insurance Exchange establishment grants to 13 states under section 1311 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Twelve states (Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Nebraska, New Mexico, Tennessee and Vermont) received notification of “Level One” Exchange establishment grants and Rhode Island won a $58.5 million “Level Two” grant for seven projects building on progress that it achieved under “Level One.” [More]

DHHS Continues to Award Funds to States to Create HIEs

 

On August 11, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) awarded 13 states and the District of Columbia additional grants to assist in the development of health insurance exchanges (HIEs) to help implement the Affordable Care Act. CMS Issues Rules on Health Insurance Exchanges

 

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued on July 11 a draft copy of proposed rules on state health insurance exchanges under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The proposed rules are scheduled to be published officially in the Federal Register on July 15 with a 75-day period for public comments. The proposed rules are designed to implement provisions of the ACA which afford states flexibility in methods of facilitating access to affordable coverage for qualified individuals and small businesses in 2014.
